What is Korean Ginseng ?
What ingredients does Korean Ginseng contain?
Ginseng contains such many ingredients as saponin, which is glycoside ; protein, amino acid, nucleic acid and alkaloid, which are nitrogen - contained compounds; fatty acid, essential oil, polyacetylene, penolic
compounds, phytosterol and terpenoid, which are fat-soluble ingredients; monosaccharide, oligosaccharide and polysacchride, which are saccharides; pectic substance, vitamin and mineral. Like above, ginseng includes a
variety of ingredients beyond comparison with any other herb medicines.
What is Saponin ?
The origin of the name " saponin " is its feature that gives a soapy lather in a water solution. In general, saponin lathers and causes hemolysis by lowering the surface tension of water. Research suggests, however, saponin contained in ginseng has mild medicinal properties and no toxicity as well as low hemolysis. Besides, ginseng saponin is very different from other plant's in chemical structure. That is why ginseng saponin is specially called " ginsenosie " implying ginseng and glycoside to distinguish itself from other ones.
